Year of Handmade: Prompt 24

What was the best handmade gift(s) you have ever received or given?

Since this is the week of Christmas, this prompt is perfect.

The best gift I had ever received? That's tough, pretty much everything that my sister has made me, I love. But if I had to choose one, it would have to be the house scarf  she made me year ago.

The best gift I gave was probably the shawl I crocheted for my mom last year.

What was the best gift you gave/received? Share it with me here or in the comments below.
This is the last prompt of the Year of Handmade! I'm hoping that next year I can do something similar.

Memory Monday: December 21, 2015

Happy Christmas week! I hope that everyone is getting their Christmas presents done or finished shopping. We went to a Christmas market Saturday night and walked around a park that had some Christmas lights up. No pictures, unfortunately, I had forgotten my camera but we had fun.

Try not to stretch yourself too thin this week!

FO Friday: December 18, 2015

I almost forgot to do a FO Friday post again. I'm getting pretty bad about that. But last week I had finished a block for the Harry Potter blanket.

It's the Azkband block, made out of Red Heart Super Saver in a light purple color and using size US 7 needles.

And on Tuesday, this week, I finished a head band.

It was suppose to be the Wasabi hat, but I had a feeling that I wouldn't have enough of the mystery stash yarn to actually finish the whole hat. But I really like it as a head band. It's just the ribbing part of the hat, nothing fancy, but it suits the yarn. I used size US 2 1/2...I think...double-pointed needles.

What have you finished this week?

What Christmas is NOT for me.

For me, Christmas is not a time for huge parties and buying things at a great price. It's not about getting gifts and bragging about the gifts you get. (Don't get me wrong, I love all of the gifts I receive, but I don't expect them.)
Christmas for me is a time to spend with my loved ones, and being fully there. No phones and not focusing on social media when you're suppose to being spending that time with your family. I love to decorate, my mom loves to decorate and had gotten my sister and I to help when we were younger. I love to give thoughtful gifts, they might not be expensive gifts but I thought of the person when I seen it and got it for them. I would love to start our own traditions and keep up old ones.
So please spend this time with your loved ones, you never know what might happen in years to come.

What is Christmas to you?

WIP Wednesday: December 16, 2015

Today's project is my Offlace Shawl by Caitlin Ffrench.

I'm knitting it out of Lion Brand's Homespun, I'm not sure of the of the colorway though, and on US 10 1/2 Boye needles. I'm loving how it's knitting up, it's striping up really well and I didn't realize it was going to until I got well into the pattern. I'm about 39 rows into the 80 rows of the pattern and am enjoying how it's growing. Not a fan of knitting with the yarn though, it's been splitting on me from time to time.

Year of Handmade: Prompt 23

What has the crafts done for you?

The crafts that I do have done a lot for me. My family always has done many crafts for as long as I can remember. My great-grandmother had crocheted for many years, I didn't know about that until she saw me crocheting when we last saw her. We bonded over that and every time I see that blanket or use it, it reminds me of her.
Her daughter (my mom's mom),  did many crafts. My mom told me about all the things she had sewn her when she was a child, and about all her crafts; sewing, jewelry making, crocheting, etc. I still have the dress she crocheted me when I was a baby up in Tennessee and we're currently using an ornament that she made as a tree topper.

The ornament is super special to me. Not only because she made it but the way I got it. About four or five years ago, my mom, sister, and I were visiting my grandfather a few weeks before Christmas. I think we got on the topic of what we wanted for Christmas and I was joking around and said that I wanted a puppy. My grandpa stood up, went to the Christmas tree and pick this up and handed it to me. Then he said "Here's your puppy." My grandpa was a joker, He did a similar thing to my sister a few years before, but with a stick pony. So every time I look at our tree, I smile and remember the both of them.

My mom sews and does some cross-sitiching, we also did a lot of crafts when I was a child. She made many little stocking ornaments like the one on the left. (I need to get my hands on some more of them.) And we made a bunch of little Christmas decorations when I was little. Like the ornament on the right, I had painted years and years ago.
My sister was the one who got me into knitting and crocheting, but she does pretty much all the same crafts I do too. Except maybe painting and drawing. She made the two cross-stitch samplers for me show on both sides. Long story short, my crafts connect me with my family, whether it's making something together, doing our own crafts while spending some time with each other, or remembering the family that is no longer with us by the projects that they left behind or the project we made while we spent time with them.

Memory Monday: December 14, 2015

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you're getting back into the swing of things, and that your weekend was awesome. We went and saw The Last Witch Hunter at the mall's movie theater  We really enjoyed it and it went well with the book that I'm reading (The Witch's Daughter). We're probably going to get it on Blu-ray when we can. After that, we went to Hobby Lobby and picked up somethings there. When we got home, Jordan had turned on Netflix and seen that their new movie The Ridiculous 6 was streaming, so we watched it. It was really funny, if you don't mind some crude humor then you might enjoy this movie.

They were enjoying the little sunlight we had this morning.

It's looking like a rainy/cloudy day for us here, with a cold front rolling in. I hope that the weather is how you like it where you are.

Year of Handmade: Prompt 22

Are you a multitasker? What do you do while you work on a project?

I would say that I am a multitasker. Maybe not all the time though. I'll work on a project while catching up with podcasts and watching TV shows on Hulu+ or Netflix. Also, I'll work on something while I'm reading; stuff on Ravelry, blogs, and sometimes books. Then, the last thing, I'll working on a project when I'm playing a video game on my computer. Sometimes I would have to wait for something to happen, do that's when I will knit/crochet/etc.

Do you multitask? How? Share it with me here.

FO Friday: December 4, 2015

Happy Friday everyone!

I have a knitted finished object, a crocheted project, and a finished book this week. All three finished between last night and now. I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself today. :D

The first thing I finished was the knitted project. The Barely that I started for charity is finished.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I knitted it out of Red Heart Super Saver in the Sherbet print colorway on US 7s. It looks so cool in this yarn.

The crocheted project is the only crocheted project I had going. The fluffy kitty blanket.

I used up all the unknown stash yarn, and had a ton of ends to weave in since I had to keep cutting the tangled yarn. I used a N- 9,00mm hook, there is no pattern I just double crocheted in the round until I ran out of the yarn.

Harry approves!

And I finished reading The Secret by Rhonda Bryne just a hour or two ago. It was...ok...I'm still not too sure if I like it or not. I do agree with them when they say if you stay positive then good things will come your way. But not too the extreme they say. They also repeated a lot of the things through out the book and it got a little annoying. They might have been trying to drive home the point of the book but it was a little much.

Have you finished anything this week? Share it with me here, I can't wait to see it. :)

Happy Crafting and Reading!

I Really Wish...

I really wish I was able to do everything that I want to do. There just doesn't seem like enough hours in the day to get everything finished. I get so caught up in doing something; like knitting and watching TV shows, that I just lose track of time. This happens to me all the time! It's kind of a pain in the butt, lol.

WIP Wednesday: December 2, 2015

This is what I have of the Hermoine's Everyday Socks.

I've only did ten rounds of the 1X1 ribbing for the cuff. I don't want a really tall cuff, but it's looking great so far.

I'm liking how the yarn in knitting up. It's Knit Picks' Hawthorne Fingering in The Pearl colorway. The yarn does have a weird feeling to it though, but it's not too bad so I can can deal with it. It's hard to explain the feel of it. But other then that I really like it. I'm hoping to get some more work done on it today.

What have you been working on this week?

Year of Handmade: Prompt 21

What is your best and/or favorite FO?

My favorite FO is my Molly hat.

I loved knitting with the yarn and really love the color. It was a great knit as well.

My best FOs? Well...that's tough. My mom's shawl is probably my best crocheted project. Even though it seemed to take forever it turned out very well.

Knitting, it's probably my Mary Lennox shawl. I didn't have enough yarn to make the biggest size or to finish the size I had started. I also got tired of beading and knitting the super long rows, so I stopped after a certain point. But other then that it looks awesome. I'm very proud of it.

Do you have a favorite FO? What's your best FO? Share it with me in the Ravelry group.
