Book Review: The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

J.K. Rowling never disappoints with her story writing. And The Casual Vacancy is just as amazing as the Harry Potter series. As her first adult book, she chose to write about things that other authors shy away from. Finishing this book for the second time I still was left with a lingering sense of loss and sadness for the characters. The story is so well written that you get attached to certain people and start to dislike/hate other people. I hope you decide to pick this book up and give it a try. But you have to remember that this is an adult book, not a Harry Potter book. So don't expect it to be something its not.
I hope you enjoy the book if you read it.

New Harry Potter Book Covers!!!

Yesterday they announced via a new article in Publisher's Weekly, that Scholastic hired a new artist, Kazu Kibuishi; who is the creator of the bestselling graphic novel series Amulet, to design and create new paperback covers for each of the seven Harry Potter books in celebration of 15-years since the American release of Harry potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Scholastic is very happy of his work.
But Kazu wasn't in favor in doing the revised cover but decided that if someone was going to revise it anyway, it might as well be him. He stated that he started to think about the books "as if I was looking back at them from the future. I wanted to pay tribute to the series itself and to classic literature. I wanted to take those two things and fuse them together. In a way, the first Harry Potter cover should feel like Dickens."
But his challenge was a whole lot easier than the original artist Mary GrandPre because Kazu has the whole finished series to work with, but Miss GrandPre did not.
Here's the link to the picture of the cover:
I for one, can't wait to see the others and to get all of them for myself.

Book Review: Harry, a History: The True Story of a Boy Wizard, His Fans, and Life Inside the Harry Potter Phenomenon by Melissa Anelli

I just finished re-reading Harry, a History: The True Story of a Boy Wizard, His Fans, and Life Inside the Harry Potter Phenomenon by Melissa Anelli. It's been a couple of years since I first read it, but it was still as great as I remembered it. Just reading Melissa's point of view of the whole series just made me wish that I could go back to that time when the books were just coming out. I just started kindergarten when the first book was published, but I wished I started them earlier then Jr High, but this book just reminded me of the nights were I stayed up reading the series and talking about them to some of my friends who were also really into the series as well. It also reminded me where I was when Deathly Hallows was finally out, I was in my first year of band camp, and when a group of my friends and I went to the mid-night screening of Deathly Hallows: Part 1, and how I cried when Dobby and Hedwig died. To read about some one's journey with Harry was a great read. I highly recommend everyone to read both this book and the Harry Potter series. I know you'll love both as I do.

I have a board that is just for food, so I went to it to look up the stuff I need for some of them. And so today Jordan and I made some Cheesy Potato Wedges and they were amazing. I also found a new blog to read and here it is:

On The Needles:

Ever since a week after Christmas, I've been working on a pattern that I bought from North Bound Knitting. The pattern is called Huit, and it's a cowl/capelet. So far I really love the pattern, it's very easy to understand and it's knitting up great.
Here's the link to the pattern:

If you are knitting this up right now, then I hope you are loving it as much as I am right now.

On and Quickly Off The Hook

I've been wanting an eye mask for a while now, so I can go to sleep faster and better at night without the light from the TV while Jordan plays on his Xbox late at night. So I casted one on last night with some leftover yarn I had from a hat a knitted 2 months ago. And I just finished it a few minutes ago. So Viloa!!

Not very fancy or pretty, but it works. But I still have a little bit of yarn left.
*sighes* I can never get rid of any kind of yarn in a project without having to either buy more or have a lot leftover. But this was a great stash busting project and a really good gift project if you need something quick to make. To find the pattern, just go to my project page on Ravelry and there you go.
My Raverly username is samashmilligan94.
(Note: I changed the band part of the pattern to something I thought was easier and would use up more yarn, so what you see in the picture isn't exactly what the pattern calls for.)

Happy crocheting!

I'm So Hooked.

A few days ago my sister sent me a link to a website that she was watching some videos that are on the website and she thought I would like. And she's right. But it took me until last night to remember she sent me the link in the first place.....Anyway, I'm taking about The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. I've been hearing a lot about this video blog for the past couple of weeks now (along with a few TV shows).
Even though I just started watching them last night I love them, they're great.
For those of you who read and loved Pride and Prejudice you will love this video blog, it's great. Once I'm finished typing this, I'm going to go watch more of it.
Here's the link for those of you who want to watch it:

Nature At It's Finest.

Ever since I was a little girl, I loved taking pictures of everything; the car, the house, mom and dad, my sister, and the cats. And I still do. But there are a few of my favorite pictures that I took over the years that was just of trees and the sky, and maybe some of flowers, that has always been my favorite. And here they are:

(Note: this picture was edited, the flower itself is white)

Those are a few of mine but there are two of Jordan's that I just have to share.

Those are just a few of the pictures that I have taken over the past 2 years. But there are plenty more that you will see in the later posts to come. I hope that these pictures inspired you to get outside and take some pictures of your own.

A Movie You May Want To See:

While I watched last Friday episode of Film State there was a new movie that Harry Potter's Rupert Grint is in. It's called Into The White. For those of you into drama/war movies, you'll like this movie. It was released in March 2012 so check Netflix or any website you use and give this movie a try. I know a couple people in my house would and will watch it.

Harry Is A Very Sleepy Kitty.

This was Harry last night after I worked on my red hot dishcloth. I think he wants it as a blanket more though. Right now he's laying on my legs....again..

Head on over to Voolenvine von Brooklyn. If you love the podcast Yarngasm then you'll love these stitch markers that the host, Kirstin, made. They are so beautifully made and unique. Well They're Back!

Ever since I was in Junior High, my favorite band was Fall Out Boy. I have all of their songs, watched all of their videos. And when I heard that they were going to start doing their own thing separately I was kind of crushed. They were the one band that I really wanted to see perform live. And now I can finally say that they're back and hopefully I'll get to see them live.

If you're a fan like me click on the link and it'll take you to their website to pre-order their new cd that comes out in May and you'll see the upcoming tour dates.

I hope you're as excited as I am.

Super Bowl Sunday

Today is the day for those who are into football get together with their TVs and watch the Super Bowl. I am not one of them. For one the only football team I'm willing to watch, the Chicago Bears, are not in the Super Bowl. But my family, who I get the football watching gene from, will probably watch it. I on the other hand will not. But for those of you who will be watching it I have a brownie recipe that everyone will love.

                                            Salted Caramel Brownies

I made them at the beginning of last week and we finally finished them last night. They were amazing and I couldn't recommend them enough. It's an easy recipe and pretty quick to make depending on the kind of oven you own. Jordan and I used chocolate chips instead of baker's chocolate and Jordan just had to add chocolate syrup on top, but I think he had really good thinking there. It just added to the yummy-ness.
To those who are watching the Super Bowl, I hope whoever you're rooting for wins, and if you make these brownies I hope they turn out amazing like ours, and to those who are like me and won't be watching, I hope you have a very productive day and/or get a lot of your reading or crafting finished.

Book Review: The Sorcerer's Companion: A Guide to the Magical World of Harry Potter by Allan Zola Kronzek, Elizabeth Kronzek

If you're like me and you love the Harry potter series, then you'll enjoy this book. It gives details and facts about creatures and items that are mentioned in the books. But this isn't the newest edition, the one I own only goes to book 6. But it's still a great read, and it's something that you would re-read over and over again.

To see my star ratings for the books I've read head over to my goodreads page.
